Yesterday we went to a warehouse where workers package olive oil, oranges, and avocados. The workers gave us a tour, talked about how their products are doing and answered our questions. I was surprised to hear that the orange trees are not doing so well here; they do not sell as many oranges as they do avocados. It seems as if every time I turn to my left or right there is an orange tree in my field of view. Although this may be true, the workers explained that the oranges themselves are not so good anymore and many agricultural workers have decided to cut down their orange trees and plant avocado trees instead. Regardless, the freshly pressed orange juice they offered us was fantastic. They also gave us each a little bottle of their own packaged olive oil and an avocado to take with us. It was a great experience that depicted how even little towns on the outskirts of Chania package products that are widespread and delivered throughout the world.
