Why Do We Fight?

There are few things that are more powerful than witnessing the sacrifice that was made by those who  gave their lives for the ideals we live by today. Boys, many younger than those in our group, fought and died for the freedoms that we live in today. What would our contemporary society look like without the ultimate price being paid by young men who were thousands of miles away from home in a foreign environment. 1,564 grave sights stand at the Souda Bay Allied War Cemetery, hundreds of these graves are not marked due to the remains being unidentified. We must not forget those buried at the Souda Bay Cemetery who fought to protect the local Cretans, fought to maintain imperative geographic points in the Mediterranean, fought for their state and fought for our system of Liberal Democracy against those who sought to oppress others based on their identity. The 1,564 graves that stand in Souda Bay represent 1,564 lives that were cut far too short, they were never able to return to their families or reach the dreams that they aspired to, instead they died for us. It's the duty of the living to honor those who fought for us and to continue the fight against evils that continue to manifest themselves even after they were defeated all those years ago.
