Art Gallery

On Monday night, we attended the opening of an art gallery inside one of the medieval buildings here in Rhodes. We had stumbled upon it the day before while getting our bearings in our new surroundings. The artist was nice enough to invite us back the following night to experience it once it was completely finished. It was a great experience, and like nothing I had ever seen or done before. Unfortunately, I can't find my pictures from that night but it was such a beautiful setting to display art. The exhibit was all about "roots" and depicted human body parts intertwined with the roots of trees and nature. Not only was it amazing to look at, it was also pertinent to what we are studying on this trip. Her paintings could be related to the current refugee crisis because it has to do with people leaving their roots behind, but also struggling to remember them. As society becomes increasingly more McWorld and less jihad, traditional roots can sometimes get lost, to what I believe is the detriment of culture. I hope that people everywhere will always find a way to go back to their roots and remember their culture's traditions so that we do not lose the things that are most precious to us or forget about history.
