Hiking the Samaria Gorge

Today we hiked the beautiful and also extremely long Samaria Gorge!! It was absolutely gorg lol. Okay... that was not funny. Anyways, it took us approximately 6 hours. Even so, it was so much fun and I had a great time hopping around on the rocks in the river. It felt like it was a never ending hike but the cool water from the river made it bearable. This gorge is the longest one in Europe and after doing the hike I certainly do not question it. It was amazing how there was a tiny village in the gorge since transporting items there is nearly impossible unless you are using an ass (donkey). Once we finished the hike, we went to the black sand beach. Which sounds pleasant....................................MAYBE IF YOU ENJOY FIRST DEGREE BURNS ON YOUR FEET. But the water felt nice. Then we had a nice long transit back to the Institute.

Also, we had a nice lecture from the Communications Coordinator of the EU Commission for Fisheries and Maritime. She spoke about over fishing in the Mediterranean Sea and how it is dealt with by the commission. I learned a lot of interesting information that will be useful in the future if I ever buy fish or order it at a restaurant.
